Car batteries are prone to several issues which often frustrated car drivers and owners. They can run into several problems due to discharging, wear and tear, faulty connection, or simply age or prolonged use. However, among these, one of the major reason’s cars fail to start is corrosion. Battery terminals are made of metal. When corrosion builds on terminals, it forms a layer and hinders the connection between the cable and the ports. This interrupts the supply of current from the car battery to the cables. Fortunately, there is a quick fix to it. Simply follow our guidelines below or call us and your car will start running just fine.
Check for Cracks
Before you proceed to cleaning the battery, look for any cracks or tears in the body of the battery. If you find one, immediately replace your car’s battery. If the cables are also in a bad condition, you may want to change them too. Bad condition cables will not power your battery.
Clean the Battery
If the body of your car’s battery is not cracked, you can get on to cleaning the battery. Mix a big tablespoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in 250 ml of hot water. Get an old nylon toothbrush. Make sure there is no metal in the toothbrush because that could lead to an electric shock.
How to Clean
Mix the solution really well before using it. Dip the toothbrush in the mixture and then use the toothbrush to scrub the top of the battery. Clean the terminals too because that is where corrosion builds and interrupts supply.
Cleaning the Cables
Chances are that the cables have also corroded. You can either clean the cables with a toothbrush the same way you cleaned the terminals, or you can dip them in the baking soda mixture directly if the corrosion is towards the end.
Once you have cleaned the battery top, the ports and the cables, allow them to dry. Use petroleum jelly on the terminals. This will resist corrosion from building up again on the terminals. Then replace the clamps and you are ready to go!
Even though you can remove corrosion take steps to prevent it from appearing again on your car battery, it may not be enough. If your car battery is quite old, it may be the time to replace it completely. If you are looking for a good car battery Abu Dhabi, you can visit the website.
